Interview with NicoleO`Sullivan, Founder of Wildcrafted Organics.
Nicole O’Sullivan – the Heart of Wildcrafted Organics
Nicole O’Sullivan is an herbalist, founder, and formulator at Wildcrafted Organics, combining expertise in nutritional science and herbal medicine with a passion for botanical active ingredients. Her approach: Skincare should not only be luxurious and pleasant, but above all intelligently formulated, effective, and of uncompromising quality. Wildcrafted Organics combines traditional botanical expertise with modern active ingredient technology to create formulations in which every single ingredient serves a clear purpose.
The Brand: Botanical Intelligence Meets Modern Active Ingredient Research
Wildcrafted Organics stands for Australian luxury skincare that combines wild-harvested and organic botanical actives with modern science. “Cosmeceutical grade” here refers to highly potent, nutrient-rich, synergistically formulated products.
Wildcrafted Organics has received countless awards, including multiple honors at the Beauty Shortlist Awards—such as “Best Wildcrafted Beauty Brand – International” and “Best Natural/Organic Brand – Australia/NZ”—as well as the “Best Luxury Botanical Skincare Brand – Australia” at the Global Excellence Awards. Individual products from the brand have also earned numerous accolades over the years in a wide variety of categories.
This allows the independent brand—run with passion and immense expertise—to proudly compete against much larger companies
Nicole, what inspired you to develop the BIO RETINOL CRÈME ?
The inspiration came from my own experience with sensitive, reactive skin. I wanted the visible rejuvenating benefits associated with retinol, but without the dryness, redness, irritation and increased sensitivity that comes with traditional retinol. I set out to create a luxurious daily treatment that supported skin renewal while also respecting and strengthening the skin barrier. The result is our Bio Retinol Crème: a sophisticated alternative powered by bakuchiol, a marine bio-retinoid, ceramides, peptides and Australian botanicals.
Retinol has been considered the gold standard in anti-ageing for decades. Why did you want to rethink this concept?
Traditional retinol can be effective, but its results often come with a cost to skin comfort and long-term barrier health. Many people experience redness, peeling, dryness and ongoing sensitivity, and it is not suitable during pregnancy or for daytime use.
I wanted to move beyond the idea that irritation is the necessary price of visible results. Advances in botanical and marine biotechnology now allow us to achieve comparable—and in some cases superior—results without compromising the skin. One of the most exciting developments in this space is RetinART, a next-generation Marine-sourced bio-retinoid that has been shown in independent studies to outperform retinol in supporting collagen synthesis, improving skin firmness and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, while being significantly better tolerated by the skin.
The results regarding collagen production, skin structure, and melanin synthesis are particularly exciting. In the comparative data, RetinART® achieved, among other things, a 127 percent increase in collagen I production and a 176 percent increase in collagen III production. For melanin synthesis, a 33 percent reduction was reported, compared to 9 percent for retinol.
An intelligent formulation takes into account not only the active ingredient itself but also the skin barrier and the entire environment in which this active ingredient works.
By integrating ingredients like RetinART, bakuchiol and longevity peptides, we can support cellular renewal, elasticity and a more even-looking complexion in a way that is intelligent, gentle and sustainable. Our philosophy is progressive rather than aggressive: we work in harmony with the skin’s natural biology while actively protecting and strengthening its barrier and resilience.
Why compromise with retinol??

Do you have any tips for using it?
Because the formula does not contain conventional vitamin A retinol, it is designed for consistent daily use and does not require the gradual “retinol acclimatisation” period many retinol users are familiar with.
For the best results, use it consistently and always apply sunscreen during the day. It layers beautifully with our Wild Pansy Advanced Hydration Serum when the skin needs additional hydration and barrier support.
Your formulations are known for combining many different types of active ingredients. Why is this synergy so important?
For me, true efficacy comes from the synergy between clean, bioactive ingredients and nutrient-dense wildcrafted and organic botanicals. These botanicals are not simply “supporting” ingredients—they actively enhance and amplify the performance of the core actives by delivering a complex matrix of vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and phytonutrients that the skin recognises and utilises efficiently.
A good example is our Bakuchiol Cell Regenerating Serum. In this formula, we combine bakuchiol, a well-researched plant-based retinol alternative, with cold-pressed cacay oil and rosehip oil—both rich in natural retinol, carotenoids and essential fatty acids that support skin renewal, radiance and elasticity. These oils are not only nourishing; they naturally reinforce the regenerative signalling pathways that bakuchiol activates, creating a layered, multi-dimensional approach to skin rejuvenation.
We then elevate this synergy further by incorporating additional bioactive ingredients that support cellular turnover, antioxidant protection and barrier repair. Each component is selected not in isolation, but for how it interacts with the others—how it enhances absorption, reduces potential irritation, and strengthens overall performance.
This is the essence of my formulation philosophy: when wildcrafted botanicals and clinically active ingredients are thoughtfully combined, the synergy amplifies the results supporting the skin holistically, delivering visible results while maintaining long-term skin health and resilience.
If you had to describe the new Organic Retinol Cream in one sentence, what would it be?
A luxurious, next-generation bio-retinol crème that visibly renews, firms and refines the complexion while nurturing the skin barrier—delivering results without the traditional retinol compromise.
What fundamentally sets Wildcrafted Organics apart from other clean beauty brands? And why should a modern perfume store carry this niche brand?
Wildcrafted Organics sits at the intersection of luxury botanical skincare and clean cosmeceutical science. We combine wildcrafted and certified-organic botanicals with clinically researched peptides, ceramides and biotechnology-derived actives to create high end formulas that are sensorial, sophisticated and genuinely performance-led. Every product is made in small batches in Australia, with an uncompromising approach to ingredient quality, skin compatibility and sustainability. Every product is a piece of art.
For a modern perfume store, Wildcrafted Organics offers something highly complementary to luxurious niche fragrance: a distinctive ritual, a strong founder story and an emotional connection to rare botanicals and the Australian landscape. Like fine perfume, our skincare is about provenance, artistry, texture and sensory experience—but it is also grounded in advanced skin science. It gives discerning customers the opportunity to discover a world of clean beauty that feels exclusive, authentic and different from conventional clean skincare, honoring our human substance – glow, longevity, holistic health.
